Conversation Over Borders was launched in May 2020 by our Founder, Colette, in response to the needs of her refugee friends and the heightened social isolation experienced across the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic. Overnight, 43 volunteers signed up and word began to spread.
Very quickly, the project flourished into a community hundreds strong of wonderful people working together to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities to succeed and settle into life in the UK. Our success has been driven by our community values of togetherness, respect and collaboration and our strength gained by creating space where everyone's ideas are listened to equally. We became a registered Community Interest Company in March 2021 and with the support of our partners and funders have continued to grow and expand into new areas. We continue to offer one-to-one English Conversation Classes and befriending, as well as a Digital Inclusion Scheme, bespoke Wellbeing Service and cultural exchange programme, including our monthly global cooking classes.
Our programmes are shaped by the feedback of our community. Our Central Team of volunteers and our service users work closely with employees to collaboratively mould and deliver our work.
