In a huge win for our lived experience Action Group, an Early Day Motion, signed by 15 MPs has called for our Safe Accommodation Checklist to be heard in Parliament.
The motion, put forward by Bell Ribiera-Addy MP, read:
That this House notes with serious concern the unsafe and undignified conditions in temporary accommodation for people seeking asylum, including inedible food, lack of privacy, and sites being targeted during anti-refugee protests; recognises that the current system is dehumanising and represents poor value for public money; welcomes the Safe Accommodation Checklist developed by people with lived experience working with Conversation Over Borders, which sets out practical standards based on reducing isolation and prioritising safety, ensuring meaningful resident involvement in decision-making, and respecting autonomy over daily life; and calls upon the Government to adopt the Safe Accommodation Checklist as minimum standards for all temporary asylum accommodation.

Our report, published in April 2025, highlights systemic issues in hotel-based asylum accommodation, with a particular focus on the experiences of LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers, the rise in Islamophobia, and the broader political landscape shaping public attitudes. It presents alternative housing models that would provide both economic and social benefits while upholding human rights and integration opportunities.
Violence in the Middle East and the UK: our statement and response

Safe Homes, Not Hotels
We've launched an Open Letter, signed by 40+ refugee and asylum seeker charities across the UK, calling for the closure of initial accommodation hotels and for asylum seekers to be housed in the communities around them. Add you signature below.
