Previously our English & Befriending Project, BRIDGE has always offered so much more than English classes alone. Pairing up volunteers and people seeking asylum 1-1 builds friendships, resilience, and cross-cultural learning.
It allows people to take meaningful steps forward with their new lives in the UK, while building a wider society where people can look past media and political rhetoric and centre humans as, well, humans. It's a bridge between people in the community who rarely get the chance to meet.
Having weekly conversations and practising English with the same friendly face can help people who have just arrived in the UK to feel more confident and less isolated. In fact, 98% of our learners feel more confident in English after just 8 weeks.
We offer 1-1 teaching and wellbeing support, resources and trainings for volunteers. We encourage our learners to progress through our training programme and become volunteers, if they feel confident to.
