our voices
Too often, displaced people are spoken about, rather than spoken to, in the media. We believe that people with lived experience of displacement should be leading the conversation. We put the power of the story back into the hands of those it is about.
Paul's Journey.
Paul first came to join the Conversation Over Borders community as a participant at our IRIS group for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers. Soon, he set up and led a second group at the organisation, growing it to be Conversation Over Borders' largest support group and community for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and refugees.
In Spring 2024, we worked with Bladonmore, using the power of storytelling to amplify Paul's voice and story.
Paul now stands as a Conversation Over Borders Ambassador, representing the community through our campaigns, media appearances, workshops and talks.
Prisoner of Hope.
Every day the news carries stories about asylum seekers crossing the channel or about new immigration policies, but rarely do we hear from the people who are making the journeys themselves. Prisoner of Hope, and the accompanying book, Refugee Heritage: An Oral History of Asylum, seek to bring these voices to the fore.
Prisoner of Hope (2023) was produced as part of the Refugee Heritage Project, a joint project by Conversation Over Borders and Refugee Radio, platforming the voices of displaced people in our communities.
