our english & Befriending project
The English and Befriending Project is where Conversation Over Borders started and is still central to everything we do as an organisation. We connect volunteers tutors and refugees and asylum seekers across the UK for online, free one-to-one English Conversation Classes.
The dual aim of the project includes empowering people to feel more confident in their spoken English and easing their feelings of isolation, while supporting community integration and social cohesion, making people feel welcome and equipping them for life in the UK.
The project is all about human connection; the one-to-one nature of the support allows people to build long-lasting, sustainable friendships and creates an environment that supports mutual learning and cultural exchange. It ties into the overarching aim across our projects of humanising the narrative around displacement.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
"We have found the opportunity to get to know eachother while speaking English during the course. During the lessons, we cried together, we were laughing together, we felt so many emotions together. We were so happy to meet. Shortly, we understood and loved eachother."
